song transcription needed » answer
by hugin77 (UN), 2017-07-20, 19:07  Spam?
Hi.  I would like to ask if someone could help me to transcript the lyrics of a song I found and I liked.
I tried to ask on another forum but it seems that icelandic is not a popular language to learn or to speak abroad, so noone ever answered me.  So I'll try my luck here.
Could a native icelander or someone who knows icelandic well enough help me to transcript this song's lyrics:

I wish only the icelandic transcription.  No translation needed.
Thank you in advance

Translation help "all life is precious" » answer
by Kendra94, 2016-12-15, 16:13  Spam?  124.190.209....
Hi all,

Just needed some clarification on the translation of a quote I intend to get tattooed. I do not speak Icelandic but want the quote in that language. I have used google translate however I am not sure if it is 100% correct. The quote is "All life is precious". Google gave me "allt líf er dýrmætt".

Thanks in advance

Information about a change in the guidelines regarding delete votes » answer
by Paul (AT), 2016-06-27, 17:53  Spam?
The basic rule in GL 3 is "Always confirm the first correct posting!". So far, when there was no completely correct posting, and someone voted for a deletion, this delete vote was the first correct posting, so it had to be confirmed. However, most of the contributors understood this differently or didn't want to comply with it, for reasons I understand. In the last months this rule was challenged several times, which caused a lot of discussions. In the end I came to the conclusion that the vast majority of the community wants less strict delete rules. After discussing some text suggestions (forum: #846903), the following rule was accepted and is now effective:

+Always confirm the first correct posting! [...]
A [del] vote is considered a correct posting if no previous posting (input, vote or comment) contained...

Need help translating part of the Hávamál » answer
by FKN91 (UN), 2015-04-24, 15:08  Spam?
Hi everyone.

I'd like some help in translating stanza 76 and 77 from the Hávamál.
I know that there are several official English translations out there, but I'd love to see how a native Icelandic speaker would translate it. I know the texts are old, but I've heard that Icelandic people have no problem translating it, as the language have virtually not changed.

The texts are as following:
76.
Deyr fé,
deyja frændr,
deyr sjalfr it sama,
en orðstírr
deyr aldregi,
hveim er sér góðan getr.

77.
Deyr fé,
deyja frændr,
deyr sjalfr it sama,
ek veit einn,
at aldrei deyr:
dómr um dauðan hvern.

All inputs are appreciated! Thanks

inntökum » answer
by Galdra, 2014-12-24, 02:38  Spam?  120.148.244...
The phrase "við inntökum" appears within a sentence which gives instructions to performing magic. Some benefit is intended and the only clue to what that benefit is "við inntökum".
One unverified translation is "for colic". The dictionary translation of "intake" does not fit.  The text appears in a manuscript that is presumed to have been written around 1800 ca.

Til þín song translation » answer

Hello i've been going crazy over the translation of this song if anyone could offer me help with the translation of the lyrics of the song i would be forever grateful
